Rising leaders of Ohio Acacia, along with the chapter advisor and alumni association president, attended the bi-annual Darold W. Larson Acacia Leadership Academy (ALA) held in early August in Indianapolis, Indiana. Over the three day-program numerous, leadership development presentations were held along with brotherhood events, professional development, and friendly competition for the “Acacia Cup.” A highlight of the program was guest speaker Cardale Jones, former NFL player and quarterback for the Ohio State University Buckeyes during their 2014 national championship run.

At the conclusion of the program, national REACH awards were presented to chapters for their outstanding efforts in the areas of recruitment – R; economic obligation – E, academic achievement – A; campus/community involvement – C; and human service – H.

Ohio Acacia was the recipient of six REACH awards in the following categories:

  • Overall Operations – Bronze Award
  • Recruitment – Gold Award
  • Campus and Community Involvement – Bronze Award
  • Professional Development Event of the Year: Active/Alumni Leadership Summit
  • Philanthropy Event of the Year: 5cacia
  • Human Service Event of the Year: 5cacia

In addition to these awards, the chapter won the following Chapter Excellence Awards:

  • Excellence in Chapter Publications (including this alumni newsletter and more!)
  • Excellence Digital Communications

J. Scott Cleland ’88 was also awarded the NIC Chapter Advisor Award at this same banquet. Congratulations to the chapter and Scott for representing Ohio Acacia so well!
