5cacia Philanthropy for Cancer Research

Over the last 15 years, the Acacia chapter at Ohio University has collectively raised over $230,000 for the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research in honor of Alumni Brother Justin Baldinger’s grandmother who passed away from cancer in 2008.

The 5cacia continues to be Ohio University’s largest Greek philanthropy.  In 2014 and 2018, 5cacia was recognized by Ohio University’s Sorority & Fraternity Life Office as the Greek community’s most “Outstanding Philanthropic Event”. In 2023 the 5k was recognized as the event with the Most philanthropy Dollars Raised. The 2025 5K raised over $10,000 with more than $2,000 coming from dedicated Acacia alumni. Plans are always in the making for the following year’s race, and we are excited to celebrate 20 years of continual work with the Ohio University community and the Lustgarten Foundation in 2028.

The Lustgarten Foundation exists to transform pancreatic cancer into a curable disease. They are committed to stretching the boundaries of science and centering research programs in the areas with the greatest potential for impacting patients, including earlier detection, therapeutics, and personalized medicine. To donate to this worthy cause, there are two options by giving to the chapter directly or giving to the Ohio University Acacia Alumni Association. If giving to OUAAA, please specify “5cacia” in the memo line of the association Venmo account.
