In 1988 as Acacia recolonized at Ohio University, the re-founding fathers established the Steet Sweep program benefiting the students, residents, and businesses throughout and business district in Athens, Ohio. Monthly and often several times monthly, brothers can be found in small groups collecting trash and waste along Court Street and intersecting streets throughout this main thoroughfare.
The program has been in existence for more than 35 years and has been recognized by Ohio University, the City of Athens, and Acacia Fraternity headquarters for its importance in the greater community. The program is one of many organized by the members of Ohio Acacia and their deep commitment to “human service” – the motto of Acacia Fraternity, where members are encouraged to lead with purpose by identifying real needs and making meaningful contributions in partnership with their campus and local organizations.
Ohio Acacia’s commitment to service is ongoing, meaningful, and impactful and will continue to be for many more years to come.
