Membership in a college fraternity can be a unique influence in a man’s personal development and an invaluable addition to his educational experience. Distinguished men in every field of endeavor and every sector of community and national life have acclaimed their college fraternity membership as one of the most significant factors in their personal growth because fraternity living offers insights and experiences that cannot be found in any classroom or textbook. Acacia is by far the most selective fraternity on our campus. By no means do we have quotas that have to be filled, nor do we have a certain type of man we’re looking for. Acacia is simply looking for the best. Each man brings something different to the table, and we examine that and assess both what he can do for Acacia and what Acacia can do for him before ever asking him to join. Being part of this brotherhood is a great privilege that few are worthy of and even fewer actually attain.

Ohio Acacia Is Different

Acacia knows men have many fraternities to choose from at Ohio University. Not only are we the best, but we are also different. Here is how:

• our name is different – derived from a Greek word, symbolizing immortality, purity, resilience, and divine wisdom, rather than from a random set of Greek letters.
• our focus is different – philanthropy and human service drive our interactions in the community (the 5cacia is the preeminent philanthropy on campus.
• our house is different – built during the civil war for a general and the second oldest structure in Athens County, recently updated, and housing 13 brothers in a “home,” not your typical fraternity “dorm.”
• our involvement is different – leaders on campus and not just Greek life; spanning activities from competitive intramurals to academic organizations; taking an active role in our campus and community
• our brotherhood is different – unique opinions, interests, and passions, all united by the same bonds of academic, philanthropic, and social comradery; always working hard, playing hard, and supporting each other…not matter what.

Acacia Stresses Academic Achievement

Academic achievement should be the first and foremost priority of all university students. It is also central to the mission of Acacia Fraternity, whose chapters stress academics above all else. Moreover, the Acacia Fraternity Foundation assists deserving Acacians with cash scholarships â” over $200,000.00 in scholarship and educational grants is awarded yearly. To put that in perspective of other fraternities, that is 10 times more than the largest fraternity in the world. Does Acacia stress academics? You bet we do.
